Who participates in the Manitoba Games?
Athletes between the ages of 10 years and 21 years from each of the seven sport regions in the province as defined by Sport Manitoba.

What is the focus of the Manitoba Games program?

The focus of the Games is on the development of Manitoba athletes by providing them with skill development opportunities and a multi-sport experience to help prepare them for higher levels of competition like the Canada Games, Western Canada Games and national and international championships in their sport.

How are the Games sports determined?
Sport Manitoba determines the size of the Games (i.e. the number of participants) and the number of sports to be included. Provincial Sport Organizations apply to be in each set of Games and are measured against specific criteria.

What are the age categories?
Age classifications for the Games are determined by the sport. Age categories must be within the minimum and maximum age ranges set by Sport Manitoba and reflects the fit of the Games in the sport’s Long Term Athlete Development plan. Age categories and eligibility are outlined in the sport Technical Package (see individual sport pages).

How are the athletes selected?
Athlete selection varies by sport, either through existing competitions, a qualifying event or selection of regional all-star teams following a series of identification, training, skill-development and try-out camps. Requirements for each sport are outlined in the sport’s development and selection plans.

How are the coaches selected?
Coaches and managers are selected by the sport. Interested coaches can contact the Provincial Sport Organization for more information on selection procedures and certification requirements. Coach eligibility is also outlined in the sport Technical Package.

What is the cost of participating in the Manitoba Games?
Athletes can expect to pay a registration fee that is determined by the sport for development or training camps/clinics, regional qualifying events or selection camps. Once regional teams have been determined, additional fees may be required depending on the team’s Games preparation plans. When regional team selection is complete, athletes will pay a provincial registration fee set by the Sport Manitoba. The provincial registration fee will defray the cost of all meals, accommodations, transportation to and at the Games and team uniforms. As such, the only cost to the participant while at the Games will be for personal items and souvenirs.

Where are the Manitoba Games held and who decides?
Communities across the province bid to host the Games based on their ability to stage the sport competitions, accommodate and feed 1,800 participants, provide 1200 volunteers and generate the required financial resources to operate the Games. Sport Manitoba and the Manitoba Games Council conduct bid and site evaluations and make recommendations to the Board of Sport Manitoba.
